Dear Prospective Applicant,
The Laasya 2016 Board and Natya at Berkeley proudly present Laasya 2016, the largest travelling intercollegiate Indian Classical Dance competition and exhibition. Laasya is the nation’s oldest intercollegiate Indian Classical Dance competition. Founded by Boston University and MIT in 2010, Laasya has traveled far and wide, being hosted by various universities throughout the country. This year, we are excited to host the most prestigious collegiate Classical Dance competition and exhibition in the Bay Area on Saturday, March 12th, 2016 at the El Cerrito Performing Arts Theatre. By providing a platform for classical teams across the country to showcase their work, Laasya hopes to inspire a sense of charitable collaboration, challenge mainstream notions of identity, culture, and arts, and share a deep appreciation of the Indian Classical Arts. On behalf of the University of California, Berkeley and Natya at Berkeley, the 2016 hosts, we are glad that you are interested in participating in Laasya 2016!
The proceeds from Laasya 2016 will be used to support Asha for Education: Berkeley, an organization striving to make quality education available to disadvantaged children in India. With your support and participation in Laasya, we can help make education a reality for many!
The Laasya 2016 Board will be inviting eight to twelve teams to compete for the chance to win various prizes. Each application will be reviewed carefully to ensure the highest quality Indian classical dance teams will have the opportunity to showcase their pieces.
This application packet includes a basic overview of Laasya and will collect general information about your team, its members, and the prospective piece. Moving forward, each team will be required to submit a video audition for judging.
Upon completing the application, please submit the application, video link, and additional information by e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org by 11:59 pm PST on Saturday, October 31st, 2015. You will receive a confirmation email from the Laasya Registration Chairs after your submission.
Natya at Berkeley and the Laasya 2016 Board would like to thank you for expressing your interest in Laasya 2016. We look forward to seeing every team’s unique and elegant portrayal of Indian Classical Dance! We vow to make the application process as straightforward as possible and wish you the best of luck!
